Narrated by: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi,Willliam B. Davis, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, Bruce Harwood
Series: The X-Files (Audible Original), Book 1
Length: 4 hrs and 5 mins
This is honestly like the TV episodes, but more condensed!
Narration/ Audio production
Note. This is a full cast audio production, not just a book read by a talented narrator that can do many different voices and brings it to life. In this way though, with David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson (as well as a host of other people) reprising their former roles, as well as all audio effects added, it really feels much more like a TV show rather than a book turned audio.
It reminds me a lot of the old Star Wars books and the audio productions / dramatisations that they used to do.
I say it’s more condensed, because unlike the TV show where there are so many episodes that seemingly have nothing to do with the long reaching arc of Aliens & the conspiracy of The Syndicate, this production only really has 1 story that has nothing to do with ‘the good stuff’.
I guess when there’s less pressure to churn out as many episodes as possible, then the quality and focus on the meat of the show…is generally going to be better.
Story
If you don’t know X-files, Wikipedia that stuff.
Basically in this book there is only 1 weird story, involving ‘the fluke man’- some soviet soldier bonded with a fluke worm that somehow arrived in America and is out for revenge….classic X-files, properly weird, but that’s just how it was.
Recommendation
Audio production was great, story was better than the series, because it was more condensed, but overall… maybe I realised the X-files wasn’t as interesting as I thought it was.
The characters remain true to the TV series, but I forgot that just like in the TV show, the characters have very dry personas.
Get a free trial of audible with 2 free books, listen to books like this for free, & then if you want….just quit before 30 days & you get to keep everything… sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
