This is the 2nd book in the continuation of the ‘Off to be the Wizard’ Series.
It follows the adventures or Martin Banks and his group of friends after having found a file that proves that the world and in fact all of reality is actually a computer program and can be controlled with access to a certain file.
After the adventures from the 1st book, his friends and him have continued to manipulate this file to give themselves wizard-like powers.
This particular book focuses on Martin and Philip’s journey to the ancient city of Atlantis, which turns out is actually run by a group of female ‘sorcerers’ who like Martin and Phillip also found the file, and are now holding a conference for which all people who found the file and consider themselves time-travellers.
The conference focuses on the effects of time travel and lessening the impact but interwoven between this conference is a murder plot for which Martin and Phillip have to solve.
It’s honestly a light hearted but hilarious narrative. The only thing that detracts from the enjoyment slightly is the fact that they focus quite a bit on the time-travel paradoxes, so much so, that you begin just tuning it out at some point.
The book is loaded with several great quotes, some of them below… I particularly like the one about logic.
For everyone that knows me, observing logic, or apparently lack of logic that people have is absolutely fascinating to me.
Best quotes from this book:
“If I use it, and you know what it means, it a word.”
Because this story deals with time travel, the story is able to jump around a bit to different time zones, all that effect or will effect the main characters. It comes back to 4 very funny characters that were introduced in the 1st book.
The story of Jimmy, trying to work his way back.
The story of Miller & Murphy, the 2 Federal agents that were originally investigating the main character’s ‘crimes’, and who which are just hilarious in pretty much everything they do, without meaning to be.
& finally the story of Todd, who makes a stunning reappearance in the 3rd book of the series.
All of their reactions, their inner dialogues, and their comments between these 4 characters are absolutely hilarious.
So, other than the sometimes annoying venture into explaining the time-travel paradoxes, this book is absolutely brilliant!
It’s a fantastic continuation of the series, and set’s up the story very nicely for the 3rd book.
Again, I would recommend this book for pretty much anyone.
It’s not 100% essential to have read the 1st book 1st, but it would definitely give you more depth into the characters and how they got there.
As kind of proof of how much I love this series, I’ve listened to the 1st book at least 9 times and it is always available to listen to on my chosen audible device… just in case I want to listen to it again.
The 2nd book I’ve listened to at least 3 times, and each time I end up laughing.
The 3rd book at least 4 times. The 3rd book is a bit simpler than the other 2, but it’s just hilarious because you know the possibilities of the universe the writer has created.
Would completely recommend the whole series to anyone, and I think it would make a perfect gift to anyone too.
