I slept on the couch last night… simply because I was too tired and didn’t make it to the bed.

I woke up at 9 or so, and realised that a friend had cancelled the ride that we were meant to do out to the Great Wall.. (the section where you can drive your motorbike) …was looking forward to that to be honest. .. So decided to edit some videos instead.

And then around 11 I got a wechat message from my friend Louis to say that he’d been hitting the Huairou mountain roads pretty hard, pretty fast. And I was feeling… ‘ah shit, I had no idea he was going, I would love to be out there too’ but now of course I had convinced I wanted to edit these damn videos…. I’ve got such a back-log of videos now, that it’s insane.

Anyway, he messaged me with his gps location to say that he’d be having lunch at a café and maybe taking a nap, so if I wanted to join I would have time.

I looked at the map

huariou-distance

And figured… yeah I can do that.

Put on some music, and set up the GPS navigation. Honestly, I’m loving the GPS navigation or 导航 as it is in Chinese.  Provided you speak / can understand a bit of Chinese, its fantastic, it even tells you what the speed limits are in certain areas, and where all of the speed cameras are.

However… my instrument cluster is completely not working…so that doesn’t mean anything to me.

I know about how fast I’m going due to general sensations, vibration of the engine, wind resistance, comparison to previous times, not to mention in comparison to other cars around me.

Jing Cheng expressway all the way, get off when the Chinese navigation tells me to get off, and then follow the roads as it says.

I had the moto-vlog camera on sporadically and I was ranting about something or another most of the way there… but honestly I have no idea what.

It was, unfortunately heavily polluted.

When I got to the café, Louis seemed to have calmed down a bit and when we left to hit the mountain roads, he was definitely taking it more carefully.

He told me he went around some corners at 120 or so… they must have been long corners…but still, that’s insane.

Louis is normally a very cautious driver, which some can say translates to slow, however on Beijing roads, and even the mountain roads, you never know the situation so… honestly smart is more like it.

There were a lot of bikers out on the roads today, like a lot, there must have been some gathering or something. And we saw a couple of people wearing little fluffy ears on their helmets, too many for it not to be a thing.  I even saw one guy that was riding a scooter, in only boxer shorts, no t-shirt, a helmet with fluffly ears on it, and a purple cape. I don’t have a picture of him, but I was recording…so I will try to get a screen shot when I finally go through the video. WechatIMG9 WechatIMG10

The thing is the pollution was just so bad that day, that you would go to a couple of the look-outs and you could not see anything.  Plus, it pretty much felt like you were getting a cold even though you weren’t.  Like you were always having to clear your throat… which meant that this was all picked up by the microphone. …pretty shit.

Oh and then I had a battle with a traffic sign post… but I won. I’m not posting the link, if you’re game enough you’ll find it on the channel.

Good to get out of the house, but in the end… probably should have stayed at home editing those videos.

Here’s some pictures

(yes i’m aware there’s a penis drawn in the background… we didn’t really think of where we parked our bikes.   Although Benelli 300 parked next to Benelli 600…nice, can’t help but think the 300 looks better than my 600)
