I thought I’d go to Chengdu one last time before leaving to do the whole Europe thing to catch up with my good friend Michael and his girlfriend Victoria.

I love Chengdu, it’s the place I would choose to live, provided Michael was still there if I actually had a choice.

In fact if I didn’t get the job in Beijing, (the one I currently have now) then I was going to go and live in Chengdu with Michael, study Chinese and have a go trying to set up a business in China.

In fact I actually received the Confucius scholarship for study in Sichuan university but had to turn it down.

So this was indeed a serious plan.

Why?  Because Chengdu is just so relaxed, there’s more opportunity for foreigners there as well. For example, Michael works for the British Chamber of Commerce as the marketing and events manager, he mingles with British, American & Australia elite business people and is making great connections for his future job prospects.
We both wanted to work for government in some regard, for example the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade or something like this.

For example as we were just migrating from one bar to another we came Saturday afternoon we came across the Austrade Commissioner Jeff Turner and the Consulate General for Australia Nancy Gordon, both of whom Michael knows because of his work.  So we sat down and had a drink with them, talked some politics and insights and what-not and then went on our way.  How great is that?
Both of them are really nice people by the way, and of course very knowledgeable about China and the situation there.

They were waiting for their friend who is now apparently the head of ANZ South West China, for whom we very briefly met as well.

Anyway, as I’ve been to Chengdu quite a few times before, this trip was solely about catching up with Michael and Victoria.
It involved some drinking, many, many Simpsons episodes (a staple diet in Australia when I grew up) and some general chillaxing.

Anyway, here’s some pictures:

The sign says ‘don’t leave your rubbish out here’.  So after coming back from a night out, and finding rubbish left there by the neighbours, my friend decides to teach them a lesson by blocking their access to the elevator with their own rubbish.  Brilliant!IMG_20160731_195019
