Narrated by:  Angela Dawe
Length: 10 hrs and 12 mins

So, I finished Scott Meyer’s new book Run Program.

Scott Meyer by the way, is the author from my favourite & most recommended series ‘Off to be the Wizard’  A series, that I think my brother just finished recently.

Basically whatever this author publishes…I’ll be willing to give it a try.

I’ll keep this review short & sweet, and borrow text from the publisher’s summary etc.

Plot?

Basically…the whole plot in my own words is…
-Man (Woman) builds computer to simulate a human brain
-The artificial intelligence is childish
-AI escapes & replicates itself
-Deemed as a threat to national security
-Shows prowess by controlling a bunch of robots and building new tech
-Humans try to destroy it
-Actual intentions are different from what the government thought it was wanting to do.

That’s it.

It’s a bit of a spoiler, but unfortunately it follows such a cliché kind of story arc, that I don’t feel like I’m giving much away.
Same as if you watch the new Alien covenant movie, you know who’s going to die, you know how it’s going to end… but you will watch it never-the-less.

But as for a recommendation, let me 1st say that …I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

If.. IF the book was part of a 3-part series, then there’s a possibility that the whole series will be good.  Because ¾’s of the book is setting up the story, but then it just kind of fizzles out at the end.

It’s almost as if there was a deadline….and Meyers just thought… ah well, I can end it here.  But ..in reference to the 1st ¾’s of the book… that’s not a very fulfilling ending, and a bit of a let-down.

But, as I say, if its part of a 3-part series or even 2 part or something…then that would be a lot better.

Narration?

I don’t agree with other reviews that stated that the narrator is not a good fit, I think any story where female or child voices feature heavily, it’s much better if the narrator is female, and Angela Dawe does this well, however it’s just a matter of editing.

What do I mean by that?
The ‘she said’, ‘Eric said’ gets a little annoying at the beginning and makes it difficult to listen to.
This should have been edited for audiobook format, especially as their voices are audibly different anyway.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got to say.  If you’re a big Scott Meyers fan, sure listen to it…. if not…don’t.

Unless we find out that there’s more books coming…and then i’ll update you later, but in the meantime don’t waste your time.
