So since the crash see article here, I’ve been watching a shitload of Mighty Car Mods, an Australian YouTube program where they makes DIY videos on modifying and making awesome cars.
I’ve always wanted to learn some mechanical skills, and since watching so many of these episodes, the thing they keep repeating and admitting, is the best way to learn is by doing. But of course doing something like this yourself is always very daunting, so doing it WITH someone is always a better idea.
So what I was thinking about recently, was IF I was coming back to Australia, was to either import a car from the UK (same driving side as Australia) and access to many smaller but awesome little cars that Australia never really had access to, and then working under the bonnet to upgrade engine parts and learning the mechanics along the way.
The car I was looking at was this.

This came out when I was living in France in 2010, the Renault Twingo Gordini RS, it’s a really cool little sport hatch. Renault’s have great safety features + great interior comforts, and with Australia’s more expensive living, having a small car like this, whilst still looking pretty cool, would be perfect.
Of course I’m going to drive a motorbike, but for those rainy days… / towing dirt bikes up to Lancelin…this would be great.
I’ve already contacted the West Australian Department of transport to enquire about how to do it. …But it seems I would had have to owned it for at least 12 months. Bugger.
OR… the other option would be doing classic mighty car mods style, buying an el-cheapo budget car, and fixing it up to make it run properly .. but really learn those mechanical skills.
So… my partners in crime for this kind of thing, …I was hoping for it to be a bonding experience with my Dad and brother, but I’m not too sure how interested they’d be in it.
Something to bring up with them in a bit.
If you haven’t checked out Mighty Car Mods, I would seriously recommend it, check it out here… the 2 guys are great fun.
