Hooray !!!
So, as it turns out, it’s really easy to get your International Drivers Permit.. you literally just go in to the ‘authorised office’ which in the Netherlands is the ANWB (post office like kind of shop that does travel-ly kind of stuff) hand over your drivers license… and a passport sized photo…and then pay 18.5 euros.
Nothing says ‘I know how to drive’ like simply paying for it , right?
I mean that’s a sure sign.
I was told that Somalia and some country beginning with ‘B’ doesn’t accept the permit… and I know China doesn’t recognise it either… or at least the 1st priority is that you need a Chinese license.
Kind of ironic that they don’t accept it though… given the ‘strict’ procedures of basically buying it. Am I right?
But from what I can gather, it kind of makes sense in the central Asian countries… I’ve heard a lot of it is just buying permits. I met a guy from Kazakhstan that said it was possible to buy scholarships. You know.. the ones that you’re meant to win on merit…. Yeah..you can buy them apparently.
Anyway.. here’s a picture of it. It’s really very simple.

So, now I’m 1 step further from being able to start this overland central Asian adventure that I was wanting to do with my housemate bob. Read about that here.
