My housemate came up with a great idea.. It’s in the baby stages at the moment, but the idea is basically to drive from the Netherlands to Thailand. Although the destination might change because… it seems rather obviously that the route goes through some very dangerous territory.
India included… and i would rather stay out of india to be honest.
So the idea might be to actually go through China in the end
We’ve found very little information of people who have done this kind of thing before… because…it’s basically mental. However it’s something to really turn things upside down.
http://caravanistan.com/transport/driving/mongolia/ This website seems to be pretty damn good http://www.brandnewchina.net/our-story/ plus this one is of 2 guys that were sponsored by a bunch of Chinese companies and went China -out.
But anyway, the idea was to do it in a shitbox. just like a 1990s Toyota corolla or something and just make the journey.
And then write about it, document it along the way
As i wrote before Netherlands is pretty damn boring, and it’s pretty much driving me insane.. If i keep this up i may just get in a car and do this anyway with no planning.
The only thing that makes it kind of bearable is my housemates. So if one of them comes with me on this journey…. fantastic.
By the way, if we go into Thailand, this will be forfeiting the China (Ordos) experience.
In reality, because of the dangerous routes before going into Thailand it may be better to go into China, and then down. So perhaps some part of the China journey can happen.
If you’re interested in any of this, or know anyone that might be able to help… please tell me. Plus if you think of anything that we might not have thought of.. that’d be great too.
For instance… i can’t imagine this happening without some kind of sponsorship… but the main goal is just to see if we can make it, not necessarily showcase any particular thing or… present any particular message…just document the truth of such an adventure.. so we don’t want to be censored.
Here’s our current planned route… rather crudely drawn I know.
