Narrated by: Tess Irondale
Series: The Tome of Bill, Book 7.5
Length: 5 hrs and 40 mins

Boff, nothing really happens in this book to be honest.

Story

It starts up midway through book 7 but from Sheila’s perspective, so just after Bill and her kiss and Bill gets thrown into the pile of leaves, burning and in pain.

*Timeline given for perspective, if you know the series you will understand, if you haven’t come this far, it’s not enough contextual information to give anything away.

Essentially the story continues with Sheila (the Icon) traversing around another way around to Boston in tow with her team of witches, and the Templar knights.  For most of the time nothing happens, the book delves more into Sheila’s feelings for Bill, how she’s been feeling in the lead up to this whole situation, as well as the pressures she’s feeling from the expectations.

1 battle happens, on the outskirts and coming into Boston, and her allies confront the Jahabish (Jahavish).  This is also the lead up to Bill’s own battle with Vehyron the destroyer (the other freewill)  and then as we know from book 7 she waltzes in just after the major battle is complete.  At this point she feels like she has not been there for her other allies.

Worth listening to?

Well, of course, if you’ve listened to all the Bill the Vampire series so far, then of ocurse you’re going to listen to this one as well, just to make sure you’re not missing out on anything, plus to have that full sense of completion’.  But in reality, this is a book that you can speed through fairly quickly.

And unlike the other books, you actually don’t have to pay attention that much.  There are great one liners & descriptions in all the other books, but in this one, not so much… so you can just breeze through whilst not concentrating so much on it.

Narration?

The narration, just like Sunset strip is done by a female narrator, I mean it makes sense as the main character is female, and most of her contingent is also female.  The narrator in this one is different from Sunset Strip (book 4.5)  and she does a fairly good job.

Nothing much to say about that though.

Recommendation?

If you’re listening to the whole series, and have enjoyed them thus far, for sure you’re going to listen to this regardless, but my advice is listen to this on 1.1 x speed.   Not a lot happens, and you don’t particularly have to pay a lot of attention to it.

After the events of book 7 (The Wicked Dead), you’ll be eagerly wanting to listen to book 8 and this one doesn’t give you much extra/ worthwhile information.

Get a free trial of audible with 2 free books, listen to books like this for free, & then if you want….just quit before 30 days & you get to keep everything… sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
