Officially bought on the 27th of March 2016.

The Shineray xy250 gy10 is fantastic for the money.  Fully plated its under 9,000. (don’t believe the taobao prices, you won’t be able to get them plated)

-its air-cooled, 5 gears, 1, cylinder, electronics are a bit dodgy, but it is mostly mechanical anyway.

-Switches are a bit shitty in quality too…but that doesn’t take away from the riding feel

– good riding position, predictable braking, however tyres are the dual purpose kind…and can get you into trouble if you need to emergency brake… (have found out that the hard way a few times already)

– I would advise changing the tyres to some more specific road use ones.  (then it could be a supermoto kind of thing)

-When you take it in for an oil change, make sure you tighten all the bolts, because it seems they come loose more quickly than the Japanese bikes

– It won’t be a proper off road bike, nor a proper on-road bike, but its very torquey and its more about how fun it is to drive

– Mechanically it is much better than other Chinese bikes I’ve driven, and the fact that its air-cooled means less things can go wrong, however the chain only lasted me 2000km. So you’d want to change that to a good quality Japanese chain as soon as you can

-Top speed is around 105km/h.  But it is enough to drive on the airport express way & Jing Cheng express as I often do.  The engine should be able to go faster but because of how it sits on the road and the tyres, it just starts wobbling around too much at any higher speeds.

– I would recommend it, yet there are a few things you need to change, and if you can do it at the dealer straight away, thatis probably your best option

So what has gone wrong since buying it?

-Chain snapped after 2,000 km or something, before that was very loose even after adjusting the back wheel backwards to tighten the chain. 10.pic_hd

– Gear indicator doesn’t show properly, shows 2 4th gears going up, sometimes if I’m lucky shows 3rd gear coming down.

– Rear sprocket bolt nearly fully came undone, very dangerous8.pic_hd

– 1 bolt from the front brake came undone, very unsafe which made a clonking noise, turns out front suspension was not the problem yet brake was about to fall off7.pic_hd

– The dual purpose tyres are reasonably unsafe on normal road surfaces resulting in not enough grip under emergency situations.9.pic_hd

– The cable which attaches to the front wheel to measure km/h disconnected by itself, so now the indicator shows I’m going 0 km/h even when I’m doing close to 100.6.pic_hd

5.pic_hdLessons learnt:  Japanese build has much much higher quality, Chinese build hasn’t improved its reputation to a standard that is acceptable yet.
There are still many things which if you were in other countries they would drive you insane.

There are however Chinese versions and International versions of many Chinese built bikes, which makes me wonder why the Chinese manufacturer feels that the domestic consumer deserves so little?
