Length: 35 mins

Ever been recommended a whole bunch of ‘success systems’ , or ‘get yourself focused’ or ‘better ways to live your life’  kind of book?   Or… pretty much anything that any family member or friend recommends you, that they’ve read recently, and they think that everyone else around them should read… despite the fact that unless you’ve found it yourself… you have no motivation to read it because there is no plot, nor does it hold your interest at all… the only thing keeping you from not reading it is guilt for that family member/ friend that you told them “yep I’ll read the book”….

Well, welcome to Summary Station.    I’m pretty sure that’s not how they advertise themselves, however that’s pretty much how benefit from their books.

This particular book is a summary of ‘ The Slight Edge- Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness by Jeff Olson’

When I read a title like that…my sceptical brain kicks in, and starts asking.. ‘oh yeah?  And should I also learn the ‘1 simple trick to lose weight that doctors don’t want you to know’???

And ‘Oh wow, Russian super models are looking for love in the area I happen to be living… that’s great!’

Well, this whole summary station is 35 mins of condensed material, and the lessons taught in the book actually seem pretty legit. It’s more of a motivational thing, like things that you know you SHOULD do, but end up putting it off.   The summary of the summary is essentially that you should always be learning, and trying to better yourself, those that are constantly developing themselves and not wasting as much time as the majority of people have ‘a slight edge’ over the others. Be constantly learning, & developing yourself in someway, do a bit more exercise… this kind of stuff.

I would honestly recommend it.

It also does an analysis at the end, for example saying that the stories presented in the actual book are a little long winded, and readers often come to the conclusion far before the author spells it out for them.  There are apparently many stories that are used for proof of a concept, and it is generally pretty well thought out.

So all of this saves you a great deal of time, whilst still being able to get the keys concepts and take benefit from it if you want.
From which you can then go back to your family member or friend, and say… “yep, I read it, some pretty good points there.. but a little long-winded for my liking”

Saving face and getting the benefit, and offloading some of that guilt that you brought upon yourself by stupidly agreeing to read such a book in the 1st place.

Below is the review I gave audible.com, as well as the publisher’s summary, for what kind of stuff you’re meant to learn.

Would you listen to Summary and Analysis of The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness by Jeff Olson again? Why?
Yes. It’s very short, but very succinct. There’s no fat, and it get’s straight to the point, if you don’t listen for a second, you might miss something.
Still manages to get in the main metaphors, and the gist of the stories

Would you ever listen to anything by Summary Station again?
-Yes, I think it’s a great way to get the main points to a bunch of those long-winded types of books that you’d love to listen to ..but also don’t want to spend all your time on.
-Also for those books that you know won’t be that engaging but you’ve been told by many friends ‘you should listen to it’
-I would recommend these summary over the book to be honest. , Plus if i really liked the summary…then i can buy the book later

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I listened to it whilst shopping for groceries and then driving back home, filled in the space and monotony very well.

Any additional comments?
Great. Bought on audible in a half-price sale, with the half-price discount, I would say it’s worth it. It’s given me an avenue to an interesting new kind of book.
Will be checking out the Summary Station list of books in the future.

I give it a 80, not because there’s anything wrong with it, in fact it’s open up a pathway of not having to read stuff….that I really don’t want to read…. But it’s just because these aren’t really the types of books I really enjoy listening to.  I like it a lot better that it’s in summary form of course.
