So my bike finally arrived.  Even after buying it early September.  I decided to get it delivered in the end,100 euros for that little service, but it saves me either catching the train up to the German border which is where the shop is, or arranging cars with colleagues and what-not and going for a little adventure.

So here’s a picture of it arriving, and a few pictures of myself and my friend Fenny with the bike.

I did my first official ride on it Friday morning to and from work (at night).  And took a video which I’ve since just edited.  View it here:

The reason why it took around 2 months from buying it to actually being able to drive it is that the dealership ‘conveniently’ forgot to mention that you have to be fully registered in the Netherlands to drive a motorbike here.

This is even after I probed them several times on this issue, to which they stated ‘ you just need a drivers license & the money to buy the bike’

Which is correct, if you’re just wanting to purchase it.  But if you want to register it in your name and fucking drive it….like I was fucking asking them about… then you need much more that just this.

In fact you need your residence permit – a piece of paper from the municipal area in which you live (and in their system) that states where you live, you tax status, which country you’re from etc. Plus a registered address BSN number.

And to get this registered address BSN number (tax ID) you need a register-able place of living (hotels, holiday homes don’t count).
And to get a BSN number you need a contract from work; and to get a contract from work you need a registered address…. So now there’s a cycle….and its aggravating as hell.

And then of course, when you finally get all of this, the RDW (department of motor vehicles) is only open during work days, during work times… so now you have to take time off work to go and do this.

But…. After 2 and a half damn months… it’s finally done.

Hooray!

So, be on the look out for my next video, here’s the link for the article about it: [link]
