I just got a new audio book today.
It’s called ‘Super Powereds- Year 1’
It’s been sitting in my wish list for some time, and the only reason I didn’t get it before was because its an incredibly long book.
Check it out.
Length: 26 hours 11 mins. 158 chapters long, and it came in 3 parts.
It’s the longest book I’ve bought I’ve bought that was any good.
‘Shantaram’ is 43 hours 3 mins long & 43 chapters, but… I’ve had it last year in July or something but I never finished it.
Anyway, I started listening to this book (Super Powereds) after work today, and haven’t stopped.
It’s on the same kind of style as ‘Ready Player One’ & ‘Armada’ both by Ernest Cline, both of which I’d really recommend.
Anyway, the story so far is about 5 ‘powereds’ university kids that have super powers to some extent but previously couldn’t control it, and they’re part of a program that secretly aims to integrate them in a program for actual ‘Supers’.
The ‘powereds’ seem to be previously thought disadvantaged, and more likely to become bad guys, but seem to be portrayed as almost disabled or 2nd class citizens as compared to the others.
Anyway, all the 5 main characters so far are all a bit messed up in some way
1 (Nick) guy can influence luck… and seems to be habouring a secret that make him sound evil so far…or at least interesting.
1 (Vince) guy can absorb and redistribute all forms of energy
1 (Hershel) guy seems to have a split personality disorder whose other side, called Roy, has apparently insane super powers, yet in his normal guise seems to have no powers at all.
1 girl (Alice) has the power of flight…daughter of some rich & powerful Super.
…& 1 girl (Mary) seems to have telekinesis and telepathy and is very strange & very powerful
What’s nice about this book though, is that it’s not just following one character, it’s following many characters and you get a window into each of their minds which is very interesting.
So far I’m on chapter 15 and it’s awesome!
I would thoroughly recommend this book, and I will do another review when I’ve finished it. But there’s a very good chance I’ll be downloading every book in the series.
