“Expected better from the writer, weak foundation”
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People that haven’t listened to Scott Meyer before and have no expectations.
People that want a book engaging enough to hold your interest but slow enough to go to sleep to
Would you ever listen to anything by Scott Meyer again?
Yes, Scott Meyer is a brilliant writer, Off to be the Wizard series was fantastic, The Authorities was pretty good, but the reason why they were good was because they had a good foundation idea, but this , the foundation was too simple, even though it was grand, so listeners can’t enjoy it as the writer builds on this boring foundation.
Still funny at times, but only in the sea of dullness, so you wonder if those moments were actually funny
What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Luke Daniels is a fantastic narrator, he has done the other Scott Meyer books as well, and you can hear a few of the characters, or at least similarities which make it familiar somewhat.
But even though he is great , he can only work with the material he has.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Master of Formalities?
Difficult to play editor, i think there was a lot of chapters because the basic concept was so dull, you had to build and build and build until it became somewhat interesting.
Any additional comments?
Thank you Scott Meyer, thank you audible for providing this book… but for the great listen guaranteed…. i might be returning this one.
But please please, more off to be the Wizard, and more The Authorities! great concepts
