A review of Zombie Spaceship Wasteland by Patton Oswalt
Narrated by: Patton Oswalt
Length: 3 hrs and 31 mins
This book… was mostly pure drivel.
It starts getting decent…comparatively towards the end, but that could just be hopefulness for the book finally ending.
There is a section about weird wines of the world. … That was almost funny. Almost, but still not quite.
I wanted to like this book, because I like Patton Oswalt, but…I just didn’t, and to be honest I was glad it was over.
All that being said, the last few chapters is him explaining the start of his stand-up career, and the shady characters that he has to deal with in the early days. That was insightful, and rather interesting, as we’ve all met absolute numbskulls/ dickbags like the one Patton describes. But still, as a whole I think the book falls short of what I expected.
What is the book actually about?
Supposedly it is the life growing up and selected memories from Patton that made him the person he is today.
I imagine that it took a long time to write and tell the selected works of the book, but the thing is, is that as Patton Oswalt is narrating it himself… so you would think that it is told with the passion and reverence that of course the guy that experienced everything has, as he’s the one that wants to share it with a larger audience.
But in all honesty, that just doesn’t come through, which is of course a shame.
Maybe I don’t know what I was truly expecting, but I guess what I’m saying is that it this book didn’t live up to what I somehow thought it was going to be.
In the end…. I’m glad the book was only 3.5 hours long
Recommendation
Ummm… nope.
I mean, if you’re a fan… you’ll be curious and check it out. But if you’re having to pay money for the book, then I’m positive that you’re going to be disappointed.
Again, I wanted to enjoy this book, but in actuality, I just didn’t.
