Length: 56 mins

This book IS old-fashioned, but it is also at times poetic, and despite this, manages to get the meaning across pretty well.

This book explores and teaches how you must think to be successful, happy and fulfilled within your life and I think it’s quite motivational for that.  It expresses this message through similes (comparisons) and metaphors, yet it is quite easy to understand.  It is also quite compact, so I would say that a repeat listen is needed, because I most certainly missed something. Plus considering that the book is quite short, a repeat listen is practical.

I think the biggest thing I took from this book is to know yourself truly is to really start to know what makes you happy.
I’ve in fact only just started to do this in my life, but perhaps more self-reflection is needed. And then I can truly concentrate on what makes me happy.

I think this is one of those few…deep impact on your thinking kind of books or things, that make you think ‘ yep this is what I need to do to really make myself happy’

Know that the book was originally written in 1902, and for some parts…especially the start, this shows.
You’re left thinking…
‘I wonder if he said man, but really means ‘man’ like plural of all huMANS, and therefore includes women..?’
But after a while, of him saying things like: ‘a man should master HIS mind’
you’re like, ‘nope… he really just did mean MEN, not including women.’
So that was a little strange.
But given the fact that the original publish date was 1902, well..it makes more sense.
It’s just strange to hear at the start.
But the rest of the book, it’s the meaning that shines through, which is important.

Narration ?
The narration is quite dry. I understand that the narrator only has the material to work with, and that it is a serious topic, however I still think he could of added a bit of ‘artistic expression’ to liven it up a bit.

Recommendation?
A friend recommended this to me, and i’m very happy to have the audio book available.
I’ll be keeping this book permanently in my audible library just to listen to it whenever i need some motivation, or need to find whats important in my life.
It’s not for everyone, but I’d still recommend it.
