Book 8 of 8

Length: 11 hours 56 mins

So the Dexter line of books has finally come to a close.

While all his other books were a self-contained story with the same character in the same setting, this particular book was part of a duo.

The previous book Dexter’s Final Cut was sketchy at best, especially if you didn’t know it was part of a duo.

This one, well….it got off to a slow start….but you keep going because you’re keen to have a sense of accomplishment by finishing the series, so you keep going anyway.   It does however pick up, and from about half way through to the end it is more like the Dexter books from before.

It is the first book I’ve ever had that finishes so abruptly.  It just finishes on the word ‘and…’

I guess from the title you can guess what happens, but still, that was a bit of a surprise to me.

Note. This is the kind of book that you can just not pay attention to for a little while, and not really feel like you’ve missed anything. Jeff Lindsay, the author is now doing his own narration, and his voice is a little sleepy.  So it is indeed a good book to go to sleep to.

Basically, unless you are a real Dexter fan such as myself, and are listening for ‘closure’ purposes, I probably wouldn’t recommend this book.

As I said the 2nd half is a lot more interesting, but if you haven’t read the other books the character development and the conclusion would make a lot of sense to you, and thus would probably be pretty boring.

But…. I have my sense of accomplishment now… so time to move onto better things.
