This is an incredible continuation of escapism!

I would highly recommend this series.   Basically it’s the story of 5 kids that have super powers of different kinds attending a university for supers, however the reason why the book follows them rather than anyone else is because they were all made supers by an operation which allowed them to go from ‘powereds’ with sporadic control over their abilities, to actual ‘supers’ with full control over their respective abilities.

Please view my half way through review of Super Powereds- Year 1 here.

From that review, here is the list of main characters:

1 (Nick Cambell) guy can influence luck… and seems to be habouring a secret that make him sound evil so far…or at least interesting.
1 (Vince Reynolds) guy can absorb and redistribute all forms of energy
1 (Hershel/ Roy) guy seems to have a split personality disorder whose other side, called Roy, has apparently insane super powers, yet in his normal guise seems to have no powers at all.
1 girl (Alice Adaire) has the power of flight…daughter of some rich & powerful Super.
…& 1 girl (Mary) seems to have telekinesis and telepathy and is very strange & very powerful

My favourite character development in this particular book is that of Nick Cambell, an incredibly smart and calculating member of the group with the power of being able to control luck.

Also the main change of pace in this book as compared to the 1st one, is that in this year they are fighting in teams.  Of course the 5 of them are all grouped together, but joining them are 2 more students; Camile- who is a healer, but actually an absorber that can heal & Alex who has the power pretty much like a Jedi —Awesome!

So this is an awesome development because I really like the Star Wars expanded universe, so adding in a guy like this who has powers like a Jedi is fantastic.

And as it turns out there is some mystery to the Vince, Camile relationship, which is intriguing, it seems they knew each other from their pasts.

The team situation is great, the character I like the most (Nick, the guy with the ‘luck power’ ) takes strategic control/ guidance for the team and it’s great to see how they work together to battle other teams.

I wrote an audible review which is available here, for which you can also find the link to download the book if you so wish.

But from that review let me just state a few things…

The first book was an excellent introduction to such a well created world, and this 2nd book continued on the same lines and definitely didn’t disappoint.

I have just downloaded the spin-off Corpies, set between Year 2 & Year 3 and will be reading whatever else comes from Drew Hayes.

I would say that whoever liked Ready Player One would also really enjoy this book.

Absolutely loving the super powered series and the whole concept.

There’s something that many people when reviewing the 1st book said which was that they got annoyed with the narration for the whole  ‘ , he said’     ‘ , she said’     ‘ , she replied’    that kind of crap.  Which to be honest I didn’t actually notice until chapter 79 or something.

There’s a scene between the 2 female characters for which that actually really does become annoying.   But then luckily it fades for the rest of the book which is good.

But for book 2, either I’d completely got used to it, or it wasn’t as prevelant.

The author Drew Hayes is great at setting up a lot of mystery and intrigue.  He did a great job in constructing this whole story to ensure that holes are left open in the beginning, yet are filled in at certain times that really adds value to the whole story.  It leaves enough intrigue that you are craving whatever else he’s going to produce.

I think as well, even though of course the characters are never going to be relatable due to the very nature of them, you end up being so involved in the story, that you’re wanting to listen to it at every spare opportunity; the author truly creates an amazing world for this series.

Looking forward to continuing my journey in the Super Powereds book series.
