Narrated by: C. Bray
Length:10 hrs and 11 mins
This book was one of those recommended books, that they make the recommendation based upon everything in your library thus far. The reviews were pretty good but the narrator sounds a bit limited, but for 4.95…I thought I’d give it a try. https://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Hell-Divers-Audiobook/B01E97TPPA
Plot?
The publisher’s summary does the book more justice than what I originally planned to write.
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers – men and women who risk their lives by diving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.
When one of the remaining airships is damaged in an electrical storm, a Hell Diver team is deployed to a hostile zone called Hades. But there’s something down there that’s far worse than the mutated creatures discovered on dives in the past – something that threatens the fragile future of humanity.

Narration?
The narrators voice was gravelly, but as you come to learn, this is an apocalyptic world and all the characters are tough characters…so it kind of fits.
Listenability?
Compared to many of the books I’ve listened to recently, this was a step down in the level of concentration needed and thinking in general you needed. But that being said, that’s what you want sometimes. Perfect for taking the bus if you’ve got things on your mind. If you want to listen to a story, without fully getting into it… then this is very good.
Recommendation?
This is part 1 of a 3-part series and to be fair I’m kind of curious as to where the story is going because at the end it suddenly picked up, so I’m definitely curious about where it is going, plus the way it is written shows that it definitely has potential.
That being said, it is a rather slow moving story. And although the summary states ‘But there’s something down there that’s far worse than the mutated creatures discovered on dives in the past – something that threatens the fragile future of humanity.’ The 1st book doesn’t begin to get into that.
So… if you manage to get this book for the on-sale price of 5 dollars, fair enough… it is a good enough book. If the next books in the series were also 5 dollars then I would say go for the whole series. I might get to a stage where I’m just curious that I just get the next 2 books… but there are just so many other good books out there so far, so that will take some time before I listen to the rest of the series.
Get a free trial of audible with 2 free books, listen to books like this for free, & then if you want….just quit before 30 days & you get to keep everything… sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
