The 3rd book in the Off to be the Wizard series, steps away from the confusing time-travel paradoxes of the 2nd book.  It’s much more simplistic but also, I would argue, funnier.

After eluding to Todd in book 1(the 1st and only time-travelling wizard to have failed the wizarding trials), and then hearing much more of him in book 2, I was very glad that he took centre stage in this 3rd book.

His character is absolutely hilarious.   He’s this strange mix of being very clever but also a little thick, and then putting this with the contrast of the main group makes for some very funny interactions.

Also, the reintroduction of Jimmy is fantastic. He’s a very logical and rational character, he knows what people are thinking and how they’re likely to react and is keen for redemption.

I’ve listened to this book around 5 times already and out of the series I would say it’s better than book 2, and only just behind book 1.

It IS simple, and obviously repetitive, but there’s so many funny moments to be found in this whole simple repetitive quest.

The way Luke Daniels performs Todd’s character is perfect. He manages to get it just right, so much so that you can clearly image exactly what kind of person he is and at some points in the book you kind of relate to him.  He’s the perfect troll…without knowing that he is trolling anyone.

So what the hell is the basic story?

Essentially crawls his way back into wizarding existence.  For those of you that haven’t read/ listened to the 1st 2 books, there are a group of people that have found a file that confirms that the world and existence is actually a computer program, and manipulating this file gives them access to teleportation, stopping ones age, conjuring food and even time travel; some of those that found the file just decided to embrace this whole-heartedly and assume the role of wizards.

So, Todd who was formerly in exile (jail) manages to escape, make a life for himself… and then get revenge on those who banished him from his former wizarding title, and sets up a computer game like quest whilst also stripped the main group from their powers.

He’s very clever but also a little thick, as apparent by how he structures the whole quest.  It IS simple, and it IS repetitive, but it’s entertaining all the way through.

I would once again highly recommend this book
