‘Corpies’ is a spin-off book from the Super Powered series. After having read Year 1 & 2, and finding these absolutely captivating, and reading a couple of brief reviews that said this spin-off book doesn’t give anything away from the Super Powereds story lines, I thought why not?
Really glad I did. To be honest, I think I will be listening to pretty much anything that comes from this amazing writer.
Oh by the way, all the actual original work is available for free on his website.

Although you’ll have to read, which means you can’t drive or cook, or eat dinner, or whatever the other stuff you can do which is the advantage of an audiobook over a regular book.
This book and this series is so good by the way, that as I know that the next book – Super Powereds Year 3, is the last book available until he finally finishes book 4, I’m wanting to savour everything about this series, and so I’ve started listening to Year 1 again (the 1st book) just to prepare myself a little better and to stem the excitement for the 3rd book.
Also going back to the start, you have a new appreciation for how Drew Hayes writes, because you can serious imagine this start sequences being turned into a brilliant movie. However, this is a long book, and a long series, just this book alone is around 19 hours long. I think turning it into a 2 hour or so long movie would cheapen it too much.
But, I haven’t even told you what its about.
The main character is Titan, a former Hero, formerly disgraced, who after having a visit from his sons in book 2, decides to re-join the Hero world.
He power is strength but its also works on an evolution adapt to survive, no regression kind of way. And by that I mean if he has to lift a weight and his body struggles to do it, the next day his body grows to accommodate the hardship so that he CAN lift the weight and he will be forever able to do that. Same as if he falls from a height and gets injured, the next day he will be able to fall from the same height and not be injured.
But anyway, because he’s had so much training to become a fully-fledged Hero and there seems to be no limit to his strength other than the limit of what adversities he faced previously, he’s basically unstoppable. Thus his nickname Titan. One that cannot be killed, only contained.
When he re-joins the Hero world, his agent (yes he has an agent…. I love how this book develops the whole outside world) his agent teams him up with a corporate group of Supers, not real Heros that have gone through the Hero Certification Program, for which the original Super Powereds books are based on, but corporate sponsored people with super powers that can help out in rescue work, have advertised emblazoned clothing, but are not allowed to protect the city by fighting bad Supers.
Normally these teams are looked down upon by actual Heros, but as the story goes on Titan learns to respect his team greatly and ends up teaming up with various other Hero teams etc, whilst the overarching storyline is continually improved upon robots that seem to only attack Supers, yet are causing devastation to the city.
Anyway, I’m going to leave you with the review I contributed to audible.com
Title of audible review:
Knew it would be good, still pleasantly surprised
If you could sum up Corpies in three words, what would they be?
Won’t be disappointed
or same interesting world; great new story; really beats reality
What did you like best about this story?
I heard that it was separated from the Super Powereds series, with other reviews stating that it didn’t give anything away for that storyline. But this really does introduce a whole new story, it kind of opens your mind to the whole expanded world of this series.
You learn more about what the kids at Langdon university’s Hero Certification Program are in for when they graduate, and how many different factors are out there
Which character – as performed by Kyle McCarley – was your favourite?
Galvanize, the Peers leader that has the power to raise people to their full potential. Even though you’re left thinking that his power isn’t that great, its his personality, leadership and general persona that makes him a great character.
All the voice acting was very good, i liked that there wasn’t so much he said, she said stuff…or maybe there was, but at least you don’t notice it as much for some reason.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
‘they came for the cake…they stayed for the fights… ‘
No idea. And no, above doesn’t make sense. But my point is, i don’t think it should be made into a movie… its such a long book, filled with so much detail, just as the other Super Powereds books were, and they are such a privilege to listen to. To have to cut them down into a 2 hour long movie would cheapen the story.
I can imagine this story being turned into a movie by some Hollywood hick, but it would be a generic Super hero movie, where they wouldn’t have time to provide background information…and will just run with it, and suddenly everyone would be fighting Robots.
To be fair, i’d probably still go to see it. But it wouldn’t by far live up to the awesomeness of the book.
Any additional comments?
The characters are fantastic! Incredible story!
It’s a shame that i had to listen to it in such a segmented way because of work, but this book keep me entertained for days because of it.
It’s a pleasure to listen to and its a fantastic addition to the Super Powereds world that Drew Hayes has begun creating.
Will gladly listen to whatever else is brought in for these story lines.
