Ok so I finished the book ‘Reflex’ by Steven Gould, ie. The continuation of the ‘Jumper’ series, about the guy that can teleport.

It was quite good…despite the over-explanation of details.
So good in fact that I immediately got the following book called ‘Impulse’.

The reviews for Impulse were not so good, but in my mind it was actually fairly decent.  The thing I like about the series is the power of teleportation.  You’re constantly thinking… ooooh if only I had that power.

But the nice thing about it, its not as if the characters have this power and that’s it, they’re constantly learning new things about this power.

The ‘Impulse’ book focuses on original character’s 16 daughter Cent, short for Millicent.  And what’s actually good about it is the fact that it takes much more time with her as she’s trying to figure out what she can do with her powers. So she ends up extending it over the other books.

offtobethewizard coverThere was a book that I listened to and loved called ‘Off to be the Wizard’ , about a guy who finds a file that essentially informs him that life is a computer program, and he can edit this file to effectively do whatever he wants. After which when inevitably chased by the feds he decides to transport himself back to medieval England and use his powers in such a way that makes him seem like a wizard.

There he meets other people who have found the file and then it continues.

What is amazing about this book though is that unlike many other books whereby the story starts right from the start or at the very latest a quarter of the way through the book / movie, and by story I mean the procession of events which ultimately culminate in the ending of the episode/ book/ movie whatever; ‘Off to be the Wizard’ s story only really starts 3 quarters of the way through the book.

Now many people may find that strange…and it sure is different but what it does in the meantime is lets you explore all the possibilities of the premise of the ‘power’ and what the character can actually do. You learn about the character, his/ her personality and go through step-by-step them exploring this power or situation, and its actually very interesting.

With ‘Impulse’ its exactly the same, you are witness to her exploring her powers and her environment.  The actual story starts quite late on in the book.

I would really recommend this series in fact.

Although, what I didn’t realise when starting this series is that the 1st book in which the movie was based on is actually quite different from the movie.

So I originally skipped the first book ‘Jumper’ because I thought I had seen the story through the movie.  But in fact this wasn’t true.

So next book I get will probably be this one.

However as I’m waiting for my next credit to come, I’ve decided to try and finish the books that I just never really completed before.

So far this includes:
-Eat, move, sleep by Tom Rath (1hr 15mins left)

makingofthemodernworldcover-Genghis Khan and the making of the modern world by Jack Weatherford (2hrs 42mins left)
-The Secret History of the American Empire by John Perkins (3 hrs 16 mins left)

-The Art of War by SunTzu (27 mins left)

-Shantaram: A novel by Gregory David Roberts (17 hrs 10mins left)    hahahha joking I’m not going to be finishing that one for quite a while. And here’s why…

shantaram cover

In the week that I last wrote about the Audio books that I was listening to ‘Reflex’ I have since finished that as well as ‘Impulse’ & whilst listening to ‘Reflex’ listened to ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi’, Adam Gidwitzsoyouwanttobeajedicover

So 3 books. And so obviously got pretty distracted.

Shantaram is an interesting book its just that there’s so many books that are more interesting.

I still love the Star Wars universe, so will still be listening to them. ….It’s very unlikely that I’ll finish Shantaram even by the end of this year.
