Extreme Bowling with Maxime

Went ‘Extreme Bowling’ with Maxime today.

It’s a sport that a friend DJ and I made up a while ago, and we used to do it every Sunday at around midday.

As you can probably guess from the title, ‘Extreme Bowling’ is mainly drunken bowling.

But the customs is that it has to be done during the middle of the day, because in our minds that’s the strangest, most uncommon time of the day to be drunk.

But basically you need for your preparation.

A whole bunch of Chinese beers…preferably TsingTaos.
Skittles – like the rainbow candy variety
And a nice quiet bowling place

Bowling in China is seen as an old person’s activity…which to be fair it probably is, but when you add in drinking …hmm its not the same.

So what makes Extreme bowling extreme?

Well its mainly because of the pushups.

Yes, pushups. …which means its definitely not for old people anymore.

So the rules are.. if you get a Spare, you have to do 3 pushups

If you get a Strike, you have to do 5 pushups.

If you get a gutter ball, you have to do 5 pushups.

You would think there would be an incentive when you get a strike, but no, the idea is actually to do pushups.

You kind of want to do pushups.

By the end of a couple of weeks of this you are actually building muscle, its crazy. Plus as you’ve got a bit more muscle you’re able to throw that ball harder and faster so hopefully you’re getting better. I think DJ’s top score was over 250 or something.
(A perfect game in bowling is 300)

There’s no set drinking standards, but basically you add a couple of skittles to your cans of beer and just drink constantly. The skittles make it bubble and froth, but also makes it taste awesome.

DJ and myself both got pretty good, although DJ a lot better than me.

And now as you can see with Maxime, we started a new chapter, as DJ left Beijing to go to Shanghai. However we just haven’t been able to get the regularity that I was able to get with DJ.
