1st of all, let me say this was meant to be posted on another site of mine that focuses on illogical things… but I can’t get access to my own site at the moment for some reason…. so it’s going on here. I will try to refrain from the swearing which I normally use on that particular website…to you know…emphasise the point.
“Just google it”
I hate this phrase.
I ask people questions, because I think they may know the answer right then and there and they can tell me the answer. But for the last year or something people just tell me “just google it”
Dude, you know the friggin’ answer, I want the friggin’ answer, you have it, friggin’ give it to me!!
Me having to google it is going to waste more time, and the fact that you’ve taken time to say something…seems like it’s wasted time of yours.
Plus, I’m generally asking because I believe the person can tell me some extra insight or something.
I just got surprised faces when I asked some European colleagues where Lisbon is, and they turned to me going, “What? .. Where??? , It’s like us asking where Australia is?”
Meanwhile I was googling it because they didn’t tell me the answer
And I’m like, “no it’s not, Australia is a country & google, not you..thank you very much…. just told me Lisbon is the capital of Portugal.”
Then they said “it’s like us asking where is Sydney”
Me: But Sydney is not the capital of Australia…
Them: “It’s not? , well what is it then?”
Me: google it.

For slightly more background to this situation… Yes, your powers of deduction have proved correct, I AM from Australia, and currently I AM working in Europe.
You would think that people in Europe would be more open… what with the multi-linked countries and freedom of movement etc. But one thing they’ve never got is that people don’t learn all the information in the world.
You learn what is applicable to you, and that’s it. Learning everything is futile because you’re never going to use it. If you’ve been to Portugal then you can probably remember what the capital is, if you haven’t, nor do you not live in that corner of the world, then it doesn’t matter to your life.
Australians know about their corner of the world, for instance the names of many islands in Indonesia, because that’s where friends go for surf trips etc. or different places in South East Asia, but we don’t get all hands up in the air when some European person says “where is Port Morsby?” because we know that’s a corner of the world that they probably don’t know about… so instead we just tell them the answer.
It’s the capital of Papau New Guinea, which is a country just above Australia, East of Indonesia.
And now you’re caught up to the conversation…
You don’t need google, you don’t need Wikipedia, because I have the answer and here it is.
Dicks.
