Pears & Perils by Drew Hayes
Length: 6 hrs 40 mins
“and had anyone been paying attention, they would have seen a very pronounced expression of ‘oh shit…’ on his furry face, as he realised what was happening. “
Hahah best line of the book.
The about the author script at the end of the book was pretty funny too.
Here it is straight from http://www.drewhayesnovels.com/author/ :
Drew Hayes is an aspiring author from Texas who has written several books and found the gumption to publish a few (so far). He graduated from Texas Tech with a B.A. in English, because evidently he’s not familiar with what the term “employable” means. Drew has been called one of the most profound, prolific, and talented authors of his generation, but a table full of drunks will say almost anything when offered a round of free shots. Drew feels kind of like a D-bag writing about himself in the third person like this. He does appreciate that you’re still reading, though.
Drew would like to sit down and have a beer with you. Or a cocktail. He’s not here to judge your preferences. Drew is terrible at being serious, and has no real idea what a snippet biography is meant to convey anyway. Drew thinks you are awesome just the way you are. That part, he meant. Drew is off to go high-five random people, because who doesn’t love a good high-five? No one, that’s who.
Anyway, whats the book about?
A collection of people win a trip to star in an advertisement for a burger company for which they have to participate in trying to free a tropical islands’ god in some ceremony.
It turns out that they are quite successful at it in the end. And it’s a pretty decent story.
To be fair, I wouldn’t normally listen to this kind of book…because let’s face it, will all judge books by their covers….and this [picture] wasn’t particularly interesting. And the blurb on audible wasn’t that interesting either.
Anyway, check it out here to read the excerpt and hear a preview of the book.

The reason why I chose it though, was because the author is Drew Hayes, who is quickly becoming my favourite author. He is the guy who wrote the series Super Powereds, which I would highly recommend. And whilst I’m waiting for Year 4 to be released on audible.com, I thought I might as well listen to his other books. And when that sale came up, bam done.
So would I recommend it?
Yes.
I did fall asleep to it a couple of times, however I have had a cold for the last week, so maybe that doesn’t say much about the book…but more about me really needing to sleep.
Is it as good as the Super Powereds book series? No.
It’s as if Drew Hayes was using this book as a learning experience through the painful process of editing and getting ready for publication to refine his story telling skills.
He’s certainly perfected it already.
Will be listening to his other book other than Super Powereds, called NPCs http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/NPCs-Audiobook/B00NHY147E/ref=a_wl_c1_1_6_ttl
A story about the Non-Player Combatants who go off on a computer game adventure…. Sounds intriguing.
