– The edited down review of my 2012 model year Benelli BJ600GS
– Footage originally taken 20160726
Good points:
-performance
-good handling
-fun to drive (when going fast)
-reasonably cheap
Bad points:
-terrible quality control on many parts
– engine gets hot very quickly. Most likely because-
-Intercooler pipes (intake, output) diameter is not wide enough restricting cooling ability for engine
– ECU mapping was apparently wrong for the 2012 model
– Fan size not big enough
– Not enough testing done on the Chinese side to account for any of this
-Non-factory mirrors are terrible
– ugly looking levers & non-essential parts
Note:
the 2014 model addressed the majority of these problems
I installed a manual switch for the fan so that I can have it running all the time.
It means that I’m not waiting for the ECU to tell the fan to kick in at 94 degrees…. so it takes longer for the engine to get to high temps
Not mentioned in the video:
I’m 183cm (6ft 1) & the riding position can start to get cramped on longer journeys, ie. more than 50 mins.
Before that time the riding position feels natural
Other things mentioned in the video:
– Explanation of why I bought the bike.
– Still photographs of the bike for how it looks
– The ‘flick-key’
– History of Benelli and the change-over to Qian Jiang
– Quality control of a standard Chinese company
– 2012 model compared to the 2014 model
– Chinese business mentality when it comes to repeat business (Chinese management mentality) & how this relates to quality control
– Taobao levers & taobao shitty mirrors
